It hurts my heart that some women can’t get pregnant, have miscarriages, or their babies die in their arms after giving birth at the hospital, but it hurts my heart even more when women actually choose to abort their babies. I’m not posting this blog to make women who have had an abortion or who are planning on having an abortion feel guilty about their decision, I’m only asking and begging them that before they go ahead and make their decision (for the first time or the next time) to please have a conversation with a women who never had a choice.
I can’t help but to compare the issue of abortion to my little brother-in-law, Matthew, who is currently hospitalized right now after having a random seizure attack on January 4th 2013. Matt didn’t choose to be in this situation nor did his family. All we can do is pray. But because we know Matt outside of his Mothers womb, with his personality and sense of humor, we all agree and choose life for him. But because we haven’t met the child in the womb yet, some would choose death? Like the unborn child, the value of Matthews life will always be the same. Since the moment of his conception, Matthew has always had a dignity of incomparable worth.
It’s beautiful that we live in a society that allows us to have choices. However, what makes humanity most beautiful is our ability to choose the good. When we choose life, we choose the good.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
